How Does This All Work?

Very good question! The reason it’s such a good question is because a lot of people jump into the purchase of a website design without really understanding the process. Then they get frustrated if things get confusing or don’t go as they assumed. To prevent that nasty frustration, I’ve put together a little step-by-step of how it all works, and some explanations about what’s included in your purchase and what is not.

No. 1

Purchase a Design

All the designs that I have listed on my site (unless marked as sold), are available for immediate installation.

No. 2

Get a Domain Name

A good domain name is important. You can purchase them from a place like www.Godaddy.com or directly from your web host.

No. 3

Get Web Hosting

Web hosts are not created equal, and I only work with a select few. Visit the hosts’ sites to learn more about how they work & pricing.

Those are the first three steps to get you started on your way to owning your own website! Please note that the order isn’t set in stone, so if you already have a domain name and hosting with one of my compatible web hosts, you can still purchase a design.

After you have those first 3 steps finished, now we go on to the next phase....the installation. There are a few things that I need from you in order to get started on this. You will receive a form to fill out for this, but here it is in a nutshell....

  • Business Name or Logo to be added to the design
  • Tagline or slogan (optional)
  • Links for social networking icons. Facebook, Pinterest, etc.
  • Photos for your slideshow
  • The name of the company that will be printing your business cards.
  • Contact information to be added to the cards
  • Login information for your website

Now you get to sit back for a little bit while I install the design for you! Depending on whether I have all the information I need, the day of the week (I don't usually work weekends) or a random life occurrence pops up (you know....sick kid, power outage, that sort of thing) it usually takes me anywhere from 24-72 hours from the time I get your information to have it completely installed. And then that's when the magic starts.....

Time to pull that chicken out of your hat! Why not a rabbit? Because that's already been done before, silly (and I couldn't find a suitable rabbit graphic...shhh). Seriously though, now is when the ball bounces back into your court, and you can begin editing your site. Now some people have mini freak-outs at this point, but that's normal. All you need is to take a deep breath, eat some chocolate and you'll be ready to roll. All those web hosts that I recommended are there to help you, and each of those sites has a Knowledgebase/Tutorial area that has all sorts of instructions on how to get started. If you ever get stuck though you can give them a call, live chat or send them a support ticket. I've got a few tricks up my sleeve too, and I can point you in the right direction if you need a little hand-holding to get started.
